Authentic Learning

In math last week, we used parts of this article to talk about a misconception that Americans had regarding third pound burgers versus quarter pound burgers. The kids were shocked to hear that many Americans thought that a quarter pounder was a bigger burger than a third pound burger...because 4 is more that 3! They used what they have learned about fractions to create an advertisement for third pound burgers that educated Americans that one-third is indeed bigger than one-fourth!
